Season Opener Reset for Saturday at ABC
by Nick Gima
Ashland, WI -- With a weather forecast that appears to be a bit more promising, the ABC Raceway will attempt to once again open up its 2009 stock-car racing season on Saturday night.
The program will be used to welcome one of the track’s new-for-’09 season sponsors, the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce, to the long and esteemed line-up of Raceway corporate supporters.
The show will feature WISSOTA-sanctioned modifieds, super stocks, street stocks and Midwest mods, as well as the track’s own six-cylinder and pure stock divisions. Upwards of 100 racers are expected from throughout northern Wisconsin, northeastern Minnesota and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and possibly even Canada.
Also, in a recent announcement, the ABC Raceway will add a new event to its schedule. Tentatively slated for June 20, as many as 16 area clergy members will compete in the track’s first-ever “Preacher Feature” race, using cars donated by ABC racers. That event will be part of a program presented by Baxter’s Speed Shop of Dorchester and include a visit by the Northern Vintage Stockcar Racers group of Minnesota.
Hot laps will begin Saturday at 6:15 pm, with green-flag racing scheduled to start at 7. Prior to the race program, “Rac Neight” will air live with up-to-date track news and weather information on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, from 4:30-6 pm.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road.
