Wet Grounds Force ABC to Call Off Saturday’s Show
by Nick Gima
 Ashland, WI, June 12
-- Due to the significant amount of precipitation which had drenched the Chequamegona Bay region over the previous 72 hours, the ABC Raceway’s staff made the reluctant decision to cancel Saturday night’s race program.
“The pit area (was) literally inaccessable - it’s just too soft from all the rain,” explained Raceway president Kurt Beeksma early Saturday afternoon. “We just can’t get through there to work on the track.”
On the agenda was the Kids’ Meet the Drivers Night, to be presented by Little Caesar’s Pizza and Xtreme Sign & Graphix and X-Wraps. Rescheduling of the popular “meet-and-greet” program will be determined during Monday’s Board meeting and posted her on the track’s website
later that evening.
On Saturday, June 19, the Northern Vintage Stockcar Racers group will make its annual visit to the three-eighths-mile red clay oval in a program presented by Baxter’s Speed Shop & Custom Machining of Dorchester and Eau Claire. In addition, the track will hold its second annual “Preacher Feature,” with several area clergy persons strapped into race cars to compete in a special event to help area charities.
Four of the track’s regular five classes - WISSOTA super stocks and Midwest modifieds, plus pure stocks and six-cylinders - will be in action, with hot laps beginning at 6:15 pm, and the first green flag of the night is scheduled be thrown at 7. WISSOTA modifieds will have the night off. Adult tickets are just $10 each, and kids ages 12 and under are welcome for free with a paid adult admission.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. “Race Night” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990.
